Ibutamoren mesylate (MK-677, L-163,191) is a drug which acts as a potent, orally active hgh secretagogue, mimicking the GH stimulating action of the endogenous hormone ghrelin. It has been demonstrated to boost the production of, and produces sustained increases in plasma numbers of several hormones including hgh and IGF-1, but without having affected cortisol levels. These days it is under development like a potential treatment for reduced amounts of these hormones, including in hgh deficient children or elderly adults, and scientific testing on people have shown it to raise both muscles and bone mineral density, so that it is an encouraging therapy to the treatment of frailty within the elderly. Additionally, it alters metabolism of excess fat so could possibly have application from the management of obesity.
